Just days after getting the go-ahead from the state Supreme Court, opponents of Pacific Mayor Cy Sun have turned in what they hope are enough signatures to force a recall vote for the embattled mayor.

An effort to recall embattled Pacific Mayor Cy Sun can proceed, the state Supreme Court unanimously ruled Thursday, saying that Sun's alleged actions may constitute a violation of his oath of office.

Pacific Mayor Cy Sun is facing allegations of corruption and incompetence from the city’s former police chief and four officers fired or forced out by the mayor. Filing a civil lawsuit, the Pacific officers contend Sun threatened to kill a police lieutenant.

The Civil Service Commission has ordered Pacific Mayor Cy Sun to reinstate Public Safety Director John Calkins and Lt. Edwin Massey immediately, agreeing with the men's assertion they were improperly put on leave.

The City of Pacific has had a rough go of it over the last year or so, and now residents are dealing with yet another problem: Embattled Mayor Cy Sun announced he was making the city's already shrinking police force even smaller.

Pacific's police chief is now on medical leave due to stress, and says the mayor is to blame. In 2010, the Pacific Police Department had 11 officers. Now the force is down to just four officers, one of whom is ready to jump ship.
