An explosion shuts down one of Seattle busiest roads in a major terrorist attack. That was the scenario on the Alaskan Way Viaduct Saturday as rescue crews prepared for a real life emergency.
But a repeal of the gas tax increase would jeopardize the viaduct replacement, lawmakers said, because there is virtually no chance the federal government will pay for the entire project.
It's part of a 4 1/4-inch slump in the highway since the 2001 Nisqually earthquake prompted periodic surveys by the state Department of Transportation.
