The Seattle Thunderbirds have partnered with Kent-Meridian High School to sponsor a TV Commercial Contest among the marketing and video production classes at the school. 10 finalists were chosen from the commercials that were filmed, and T-Birds staff, players and fans will now have the opportunity...more to pick the winning commercials, which will be shown on the big screen at ShoWare Center on Friday, February 12, when the T-Birds take on the Moose Jaw Warriors at 7:35pm. All ten student productions can be viewed on-line and there is a non-binding poll where you can cast a vote for your favorite. The T-Birds and Kent-Meridian will have final say on the results of the vote to make sure there are not voting irregularities. There will be a first, second and a third place.

Stryker unit's beloved Afghan dog makes it home safe

A long journey for Oso has come to a happy ending. The Afghan mountain dog, who was rescued from the streets of Afghanistan by a Stryker soldier and ended up bonding with the entire unit, arrived at Sea-Tac Airport late Tuesday morning. Phil Bourillion found the then 4-month-old pup in a pile of...more trash one day near his unit's base. "Obviously scrounging for food - I'm sure - no mother around," he said late last year. So he picked her up and took her in, and soon Oso and the rest of Phil's unit with the 5th Stryker Brigade were inseparable. If one of the troops felt down or missed a loved one, Oso was there. When they went out on night patrols, Oso waited for them to return safely. "No matter where we went, she would follow us," says Phil. When Phil's unit got transferred to another base, they thought they'd just bring Oso along with the goal to get her back to the United States, but it was against Army regulations. Detectives are desperate for new leads in the cold-case killing of a young man inside his apartment.In September 2006, John Schuloler was found dead in his first-floor apartment, lying in bed. Fog and low clouds earlier in the morning delayed the scheduled liftoff by over two hours.The 747-8 is 250 feet long, which is 18 feet longer than current jumbo 747s.
