Chair of the Division of Space History, National Air and Space Museum and former Chief Historian at NASA, Dr. Roger Launius will make a presentation on Apr. 15 at the Museum of Flight based on his recent book that explores the history and possible futures for human and robotic spaceflight,...more "Imagining Space: Achievements, Possibilities, Predictions, 1950-2050." The special, evening program in the William M. Allen Theater will be at 7 p.m. followed by a question and answer session and book signing. Admission is $10 or $5 for museum members. Roger D. Launius graduated from Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa and received his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, in 1982. He then worked as a civilian historian with the United States Air Force until 1990, when he became chief historian of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration from 1990 to 2002.

Open house kicks-off last season of "old" Cheney Stadium

On Saturday, March 20th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Tacoma Rainiers will be holding a pre-season party at Cheney Stadium. Admission to the party is free. Activities will include – ticket sales, tag-a-seat, ballpark tours - including access to the dugouts and the clubhouses, national anthem...more tryouts, and more. The Rainiers will be serving up free hot dogs and sodas. Fans will also get a chance to sample ‘Ohana Harbor’s Baseball Blend coffee, a blend that was chosen by Rainiers’ partners and season ticket holders. Gig Harbor Police detectives need your help to identify the suspect responsible for a bank robbery earlier this week. At 4:55 p.m. on Monday March 8, a suspect robbed Umpqua Bank (formerly Rainier Pacific Bank) located in the 4900 block of Borgen Blvd. The suspect approached the bank counter and...more gave the teller an envelope with a note written on it demanding cash. The suspect whispered to the teller that it was a robbery, then grabbed the cash and fled the bank on a bicycle.  The suspect was last seen leaving the bicycle in a nearby Costco parking lot and entering a waiting green sedan, which then sped away from the area. The suspect is described as a white male, 35 to 45 years old, 6’2”, slender build, with an auburn/brown wig and a goatee. A young couple facing foreclosure says their house was hijacked and rented to strangers without their consent. Eric and Ashlie Bogue found themselves locked out of their own house "I still own this property. They changed the locks on the door. I can't even get into my own house," said Eric...more Bogue. The Bogues got behind in their payments. The bank agreed to a short sale. So they moved out to keep the house ready to show at a moment's notice. But when they went to check on the house on Saturday, they saw an entire family moving in with their beds, their clothes and all of the kids' toys, including the son's baseball card collection.
